Ganesh Chaturthi is a major festival in India, celebrated with great enthusiasm and devotion. The birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, also known as "Vighnaharta" and "Siddhi Vinayak", is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival is mainly celebrated in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh, but now it is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over the country.
Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month, which falls in the month of August or September. On this day, idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes and pandals. People install the idol of Ganesha and worship it ritually and enjoy Ganeshotsav for 10 days. During these ten days, devotees worship Lord Ganesha, perform bhajans and kirtans, and observe various religious rituals.
The main objective of this festival is to pray to Lord Ganesha for happiness, peace, prosperity and removal of obstacles in life. Lord Ganesha is considered a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and good luck. Therefore, during Ganesh Chaturthi people seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha to remove all the obstacles in their life and start new works.
Ganesh Chaturthi concludes on the day of Anant Chaturdashi, when the idols of Lord Ganesha are immersed. At the time of immersion, devotees raise slogans of "Ganpati Bappa Morya, Agle Baras Tu Jaldi Aa" and pray to Lord Ganesha to come back again next year.
